TYNDALL, SD (Mitchell Now) — A Nebraska man is dead after a multi-vehicle accident in Bon Homme County early Monday.
The collision happened at the intersection of Highway 37 and Highway 52, about eight miles south of Tyndall. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has released the preliminary crash report. It says a 49-year-old driver from Omaha was behind the wheel of a 2025 Honda Pilot going west on 52 when he pulled up to the crossing with Highway 37. The intersection is a two-way stop with only traffic on Highway 52 brought to a halt. The Pilot then tried to cross 37 when it was struck by a 2020 Ford F-250 pickup truck, driven by a 32-year-old from Colman, South Dakota.
The Omaha driver died at a nearby hospital. There was a passenger in the Pilot, a 47-year-old woman who had to be rushed to Sioux Falls via Life Flight after being hurt critically. The South Dakota driver only had minor injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is still investigating.
