TRIPP, SD (Mitchell Now) — The Hutchinson County 4-H Achievement Days feel steeped in tradition from the moment one walks into the first shed.
Mitchell Now caught up with 17-year-old Kenley Henke, who is entered into the fashion revue. She first found a love for clothing growing up by sewing with her great grandmother. Henke says she enjoys working on dresses the most. She talked about their versatility in that they can be used in so many different situations, each one impacting the style and cut needed. Henke will be in the show ring, too, with a baby beef steer and a market heifer.
Kinley Werning is 12 years old and also taking part in the fashion revue. Werning dabbles in the visual arts, home environment, and foods competitions. As if that weren’t enough, she is showing goats and pigs. When asked which are more stubborn, she didn’t hesitate. It seems goats don’t kid around when it comes to being obstinate.
Magda Martinez agreed wholeheartedly on goats being the most stubborn animals available to show. It is routine for her to lead them around pre-show. Martinez says she can usually tell right then and there what she is in for. On display from Martinez are several home décor pieces, including a wreath and patriotic wall hangers.
