FORESTBURG, S.D. (Mitchell Now) — Sanborn County 4-H members showcased the results of months of hard work during the county’s annual 4-H Achievement Days, exhibiting livestock, creative projects and skills they’ve developed throughout the year. Achievement Days provide youth with an opportunity to display their projects, gain valuable experience and prepare for the South Dakota State Fair.
Among the exhibitors was Cecilia, who is in her second year of 4-H. She exhibits sheep and chickens, with this year marking her first time showing sheep and her second year showing poultry. In addition to livestock, she participates in the Special Foods youth culinary program and is active in 4-H Shooting Sports.
Mason, a three-year 4-H member, exhibits poultry and eggs and also competes in Shooting Sports. He said one of the best parts of being involved in 4-H is spending time with fellow members.
Adriana’s projects include poultry, with her family hatching the chicks she raises and exhibits. She also entered gardening projects, including two hand-painted owl garden stones, and participates in BB gun Shooting Sports.
Sanborn County 4-H Achievement Days give youth the opportunity to develop leadership, responsibility and life skills while sharing their accomplishments with the community and preparing qualifying exhibits for the South Dakota State Fair.
