ABERDEEN, SD (Mitchell Now) -Thread Bound, an independent feature film shot in South Dakota, will begin its theatrical run Sept. 17 with a special hometown premiere in Aberdeen, followed by screenings in communities across the state throughout September and early October.
Filmed on location in Aberdeen, Thread Bound is an emotional family drama centered on miracles, grief, forgiveness and hope. The story follows Ellie, a skeptical teenager searching for something to believe in, and Sam, a mysterious boy with an extraordinary ability to heal. As the two unravel the painful threads of their past, they discover that something greater may be connecting it all.
“At its heart, Thread Bound is about people finding hope when life gives them every reason to lose it,” said director Allison Downey. “We wanted to tell a story about grief, faith, forgiveness and the connections between people that we don’t always understand. This is the kind of movie we made to be experienced together, and we’re excited to finally share it with audiences in theaters.”
The film’s current South Dakota rollout includes Aberdeen, Brookings, Chamberlain, Madison, Milbank, Mitchell, Pierre, Sioux Falls, Viborg, Watertown, Webster and Winner. The Aberdeen hometown premiere is Sept. 17 at Capitol Cinema Theatre, with regular theatrical screenings beginning Sept. 18 in multiple markets and additional engagements continuing into early October. Moviegoers can visit ThreadBoundMovie.com to find participating theaters, showtimes and advance ticket links as they become available.
“Thread Bound was made possible by the generosity, talent and encouragement of so many people across South Dakota,” said producer Zeke Hanson. “Bringing it back to theaters here feels like a true full-circle moment, and we’re grateful that audiences across the state will now get the chance to experience it together.”
