MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The South Dakota Supreme Court has unanimously upheld Cory Bromley’s convictions stemming from a March 1, 2025, robbery in Alcester, according to the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
Bromley, who is serving 25 years in prison, challenged the sufficiency of the evidence supporting his convictions. His defense argued that prosecutors had not established his involvement in the crimes.
Bromley was convicted of one count each of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, commission of a felony involving kidnapping while armed with a firearm, second-degree kidnapping and petty theft. He was arrested along with another suspect following the robbery.
At trial, prosecutors argued that Bromley aided and abetted the crimes. According to the attorney general’s announcement, the Supreme Court determined that the evidence supported a finding that Bromley intended to participate and was more than merely present at the scene.
The justices concluded that the jury could reasonably find that Bromley aided and abetted the offenses.
“The investigators, trial and appellate lawyers have held him accountable and have kept our communities safer,” Attorney General Marty Jackley said.
The South Dakota Attorney General’s Office represented the state in the appeal.
