MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) Drivers traveling through the intersection of Havens Avenue and Ohlman Street on S.D. Highway 37 should plan for lane restrictions and temporary traffic signals during a signal upgrade project scheduled for completion Nov. 13.
Work was scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 26. The project schedule remains dependent on weather.
Traffic through the intersection will be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction, with dedicated turn lanes remaining available. Motorists should allow extra travel time, particularly during peak commuting hours.
The permanent traffic signals will be deactivated during the upgrades. Portable traffic signals will control the intersection, and drivers must obey them as they would permanent signals.
The project includes new mast-arm traffic signals, advanced vehicle detection sensors and upgraded pedestrian crossing controls designed to improve traffic flow and safety.
All lane restrictions are expected to be removed and the permanent signals fully operational by Friday, Nov. 13, weather permitting.
BX Civil and Construction of Dell Rapids is the primary contractor for the $2.2 million project.
