MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Mitchell’s first roundabout opened to traffic Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, following a 4 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony at West 23rd Avenue and North Ohlman Street.
Mayor Jordan Hanson and members of the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce attended the ceremony, marking the opening of the new intersection after months of construction.
The Mitchell Police Department officially christened the roundabout by becoming the first to drive around it. The Mitchell Fire Department also drove through, while cars lined up as motorists waited for their first trip through the intersection.
Construction began in May as part of the larger North Ohlman Street improvement project. By August, concrete work had outlined the roundabout, with paving, road markings and sidewalks following as construction progressed.
