The Mitchell City Council will consider approval of an agreement for asbestos removal prior to the demolition of a downtown building. The building located at 124 East 1st has been declared a nuisance property. The Department of Ag and Natural Resources has indicated that a pre-inspection and sampling is not safe. Prior to its demolition, the transite siding must be removed, along with the asbestos, and the site will need to be watered down to keep dust particles to a minimum. Horsley Specialties has been quoted to do the job at just over $15,000.

The council will also consider approval of an agreement for $339,000 with Barr Engineering for preliminary design of the Lake Mitchell Development Project.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 PM at City Hall in downtown Mitchell. The meeting is open to the public, is televised locally, and is streamed online. The complete agenda can be found at https://www.cityofmitchell.org/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_04052021-947?html=true.
