MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Before turning in after tonight’s Halloween festivities, Mitchell residents should remember one more task: Set their clocks back one hour.
Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, when clocks return to 1 a.m. The overnight change brings Mitchell back to central standard time and provides an extra hour for those catching up on sleep after trick-or-treating.
Many smartphones and computers adjust automatically when their time settings are enabled. However, wall clocks, microwave displays, vehicle clocks and other manually set devices may need to be changed.
Checking clocks before bed can help prevent confusion over Sunday morning work shifts, church services and other activities. Residents should also double-check their alarm settings.
The return to standard time means daylight arrives earlier on the clock, with earlier sunsets as well. Drivers should prepare for more evening travel after dark and watch for pedestrians and bicyclists.
For tonight, the reminder is simple: Enjoy Halloween, then “fall back” before heading to bed.
