MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The Dakota Wesleyan University theatre department is bringing history to life every Thursday in July at the old town depot behind the Dakota Discovery Museum.

The 30-minute production is western-themed, but it definitely is not cowboy poetry, pardner. Dusty Trails and the Mitchell Cattle Plot is oater melodrama at its finest. Audience participation is encouraged. Bring a lawn chair to cheer the hero, boo the over-the-top dastardly livestock-thieving villain, and laugh at the zaniness of the supporting cast.

The show begins at 7:00 p.m. each Thursday through the end of the month. The production is family-friendly, with an opportunity for the young ‘uns not quite “between the hay and the grass” to take photos with the cast after each show wraps up. The threat of severe weather provided real-life drama last Thursday, so July 9th is the first chance to catch this summer’s free play.
