WESSINGTON SPRINGS (Mitchell Now) — Wessington Springs celebrates this weekend with Foothills Days, kicking off the event with golf, working up an appetite, and ending on Ribfest.
Wessington Springs Chamber and Development Organization board member Kim Burg warns Mitchell Now that those with a hankering for some ribs need to be prompt and on time as they will run out. The competition starts at 4 p.m. Saturday, for the public. Burg says the stars are the roughly dozen participants “that are really out there doing the work, the ones that start out early in the morning, and they are barbecuing all day long.” They range from expert pitmasters to novices with the smoker, but everyone has a good time.
Burg believes Ribfest is one of the most affordable events around, only $2 per taste. While some are chowing down, others will be throwing down. Burg exclaims, “We’ve got cornhole going on. We start the registration for that at 3:30, and then the bags will fly at 4:30. It’s just a great event, and then there’s other activities that go on. Got a beer garden, live music by the Bad Habit Band. They’ll start about 7 p.m.”
Before Ribfest, rummage sales will be happening across town between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The Mayor’s Classic golf tournament runs Friday, with tee off at 10 a.m. The volunteer fire department will be doing fun fest that evening from 6-10 p.m. at the fire hall.
Burg says she is excited about the Community Art and Photography Showcase. “You’ve got the photography, or if people want to paint, and…it’s great that we’ve got that going on!” The pieces will be on display at the Art Loft, 113 Main Street.
