Mitchell Softball

The Kernel softball team had their home opener yesterday at Cadwell Park but were unable to come out on top. It is now three straight losses to begin the year for Mitchell after a 6-2 loss to Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The Kernels sit at 0-3 overall on the season.

Mitchell Baseball

The Kernel baseball team continued their hot start to the season with another win yesterday at Drake Field. In game 1 they got a 5-1 victory and then in Game 2, they had a walk-off win by a double hit by Ian Weber to bring in Michael Gomez and get the victory. They are now 7-1 overall on the season and bounced back after their loss on Tuesday to O’Gorman.

Mitchell Track & Field

The Kernel track & field teams competed in the Corn Palace Relays yesterday afternoon in Mitchell. It came with numerous top placements and a milestone. Here are the Top 10 placements and Top 5 relay results:

Mitchell Golf

The Kernel girls golf team started their season yesterday at Spring Creek Golf Club. They took on Harrisburg and had three girls finish in the Top 10. Anna Eliason tied for eighth place with a 78 total and both Mia Larson and Maddie Childs tied for fifth with a 77 total score.

Mitchell Tennis

The Kernel boys tennis team had a good day on the courts again but still experienced their first loss of the season in the midst of it all. Mitchell took down the Brandon Valley Lynx 6-3, but took their first team loss to O’Gorman, 8-1. The Kernels are 6-1 overall on the season. They’ll compete again today at Brandon Valley high school beginning at 4pm.

DWU Baseball

The Tiger baseball game began a series with the Concordia Bulldogs yesterday in Mitchell at Drake Field. It was a tough start to the doubleheader for DWU as they lost the first game 10-1 but bounced back with a 6-5 Game 2 win. The Tigers are sitting at 17-22 overall and 8-14 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. They will have the final two games of this series on Sunday for Senior Day which begins at 1pm at Drake Field.

DWU Softball

The Tiger softball team has now won 14 straight games after a pair of wins yesterday at Dr. McWhirter Field. They defeated the Mount Marty Lancers 7-4 in Game 1 and then 4-2 in Game 2. Making them an undefeated 8-0 at home. They are now 32-11 overall and 15-1 in GPAC play. They will have games again on Sunday when they host Midland for a doubleheader at Dr. McWhirter Field beginning at 1pm.

MLB

The Minnesota Twins are back on the field tonight and have been playing some good baseball lately. They hope to continue that tonight when they host the Cincinnati Reds at Target Field at 7:10pm on MLBTV.

NBA

The NBA Play-In Tournament has its final night tonight to determine the No. 8 seed in each conference after Philadelphia and Portland locked up the No. 7 seed spots. It’ll be the Charlotte Hornets at Orlando at 6:30pm and the Warriors at the Phoenix Suns at 9pm. Both games will air on Prime Video.
