MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Families looking for free children’s activities can enjoy stories, songs and crafts every Thursday and Saturday at Mitchell Public Library.

The library’s Thursday Storytime has been offered for more than 40 years and typically draws 25 to 30 attendees. Saturday Storytime began in 2018 and can attract more than 30 participants.

Both programs run from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday sessions feature bilingual stories, with storytellers alternating pages in English and Spanish. Infants, toddlers, preschoolers and older children are welcome to attend with a parent or caregiver.

The weekly programs take place in the library’s community room at 221 N. Duff St. Admission is free.

Children’s Services Librarian Jean Patrick said the gatherings give children and adults an opportunity to meet others who share a passion for books, adding that “storytime friends are friends forever.”

Upcoming sessions are Thursday, Oct. 15, and Saturday, Oct. 17. Families can extend their visit by browsing books and choosing their next read together.t. 17. Families can extend their visit by browsing books and choosing their next read together.
