MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Nominations are due this week highlighting the heartbeats of South Dakota agriculture, the ones who take on challenges in the field and are the glue for the family around the dinner table. Dakotafest will once again honor a Woman Farmer/Rancher of the Year this summer.
The contest is looking to unearth stories about gritty women who are committed to the farms where they are on the payroll or own, creating a positive impact at work and in the community. Nominees should be South Dakota residents involved in agriculture in some capacity.
It is simple to put someone up for consideration by visiting here. After the June 5th deadline has passed, a committee will sift through all of the entries until it finds five women who epitomize what it means to be a farmer or rancher on the High Plains.
The top five nominees will receive a gift basket and invited on stage at Dakotafest the week of August 18-20 in Mitchell. The winner gets a $1,000 prize.
Country station KMIT-FM is a proud co-sponsor for the 2026 Woman Farmer/Rancher of the Year award.
