Mitchell Post 18 committed 17 errors and gave up 30 runs in its first two games at the Veterans Classic in Rapid City on Thursday.

In the first game, an 11-4 loss to Laramie (Wyo.), Mitchell committed 10 errors. The game was tied 2-2 after the first inning when Mitchell’s fielding woes began, with errors in the second, third, and sixth innings. Mitchell smashed 10 hits and drew 6 walks, but left 11 runners on base. Ty Neugebauer gave up only one earned run and struck out six in 5 2/3 innings of work for Post 18.

Mitchell faced Fremont (Neb.) in its second game and lost 19-1. A 3-1 contest turned into the 19-1 drubbing after Fremont scored 16 runs in the sixth inning on ten hits, six Mitchell errors, and four walks. Fremont’s Landon Mueller gave up only one hit and one walk over four innings, striking out eight.

Mitchell, now 3 and 5 on the season, plays Rapid City Post 22 at 9 PM tonight at the Veterans Classic.
