Washington, D.C. – This week, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) and several of his U.S. House and U.S. Senate colleagues pressed President Biden on the details of his plan to safely withdraw thousands of Americans and allies from Afghanistan.
“The withdrawal carried geopolitical and strategic consequences that have already begun to unfold and will reverberate for decades,” said the Members of Congress. “Dealing with these consequences means that we must take action now to chart the course for American strategy, while we manage the immediate repercussions of this self-inflicted crisis in Afghanistan. To this end, we write to ask you to outline what your plan is to move America forward.”
The letter requests more information regarding the administration’s plan to evacuate Afghan SIVs, how we are ensuring U.S. military equipment is reclaimed from the Taliban, and how we will get Americans out of Afghanistan following the August 31st deadline. Additionally, Johnson requested guidance from the State Department on how his office can best process constituent casework requests from Americans and allies seeking to evacuate Afghanistan.
