A Sioux Falls woman has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death of her newborn son 40 years ago.  In exchange for the plea, two murder charges against 60-year old Theresa Bentaas were dropped.  Bentaas entered what is called an “Alford” plea, which allows her to maintain her innocence while also allowing the court to enter a guilty plea to the manslaughter charge.  Bentaas initially pled not guilty to three charges in connection to the 1981 death of her son.  The boy, who authorities called “Baby Andrew” was found wrapped in a blanket in a ditch.  In 2019, DNA evidence found two possible matches which led authorities to Bentaas, who was then arrested.  Sentencing was set for December 2nd.
