On Wednesdya, Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball faces off against Bellevue. This is the final non-conference home game of the season for DWU.
Bellevue comes in 4-7 and 0-1 in the North Star Conference after taking No. 18 Dakota State to overtime last Saturday. The Bruins lost 80-72 in the overtime period — but DWU head coach Jason Christensen said Bellevue did some nice things in the effort.
“I thought they did a good job of getting to the rim,” coach Christensen said. “I also though they did a good job of using their size when they needed to. Defensively, they did a really nice job in their zone.”
Dakota Wesleyan comes into tomorrow’s game at the Palace 8-2 overall with a 3-2 record in the GPAC. The Tigers picked up wins over Hastings and Doane last weekend. After a 27-point win over Hastings 69-42 on Friday, the Tigers struggled a bit out of the gates against Doane.
After trailing by as many as 10 points, DWU was led by career highs from sophomore Aspen Hansen with 19 points and Isabel Ihnan with 17.
“That was the best game Aspen’s played all year — in her career actually,” Christensen said. “Aspen’s going to be a pretty special player for this program.”
DWU and Bellevue tip at the Corn Palace at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Pregame coverage on KMIT 105.9 and online at KMIT.com will begin at 5:40 p.m.
