MITCHELL — The Kernels fell to Thunder Basin (WY) 61-45 on Tuesday at the Corn Palace on day one of the Hoop City Classic.

Junior post Joelie Spelts led Thunder Basin with 19 points — including 13 in the fourth quarter. Sawyer Stoebner led Mitchell 15 points, and Lauren VanOverschelde tallied 14.

The Kernels return to action on Wednesday to take on Campbell County (WY) at the Corn Palace at 3 p.m.
