The Mitchell City Council on Monday approved the Corn Palace service agreement with the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce. The current contract expires this month. The new two-year contract will increase the Chamber’s rent for the Corn Palace gift shop to $165,000 annually for the first year. That is a 17 percent increase from the current annual base rent of nearly $141,000. The rent will then be adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index. The new agreement does not include the 5% of gross sales above $750,000 which is included in the current agreement. The vote to approve was 7-1.
