Trial date set for Mount Vernon man accused of killing 3-year old boy while babysitting him

A trial date has been set for a Mount Vernon man accused of killing a 3-year old boy while babysitting him last year. 36-year old Shawn DeLancey’s trial is set to begin December 5th with jury selection. DeLancey has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the charge of second-degree murder. The child died after allegedly being shaken violently by DeLancey while he was babysitting the child at his Mount Vernon residence. He told authorities that he was attempting to calm the child after he acted out several times. DeLancey faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole if convicted.
