The Mitchell Kernels will be hosting a volleyball camp on Monday July 15th and Tuesday July 16th at the Mitchell High School main gym. The Mitchell Kernels volleyball camp features a morning and an afternoon session. The morning session is for 7th-12th grades and is from 9 am till noon and the cost is $70 per player. The afternoon session is for grades 1st through 6th grade and the camp cost is $45 per participant. The Mitchell Kernels volleyball camp will be coached by The Head Coach of the Mitchell Kernels Volleyball team Deb Thill and her coaching staff. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team has now won three out of their last five games after splitting a doubleheader on Monday at home against Post 8 16u baseball team. Post 8 16u baseball won the first game of the doubleheader winning a close one run game 7 to 6. Despite the loss Mitchell’s Dawson Adams had a great game going four for four at the plate and driving in a run.
Post 8’s Carter Templeton picked up the win for Pierre going four innings and allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking six. Mitchell’s Jacob Ebert was tabbed with the loss in a close one run affair allowing seven runs on six hits while striking out four and walking three. Mitchell’s Gavin Jones had a nice day at the plate as well in the loss going two for five at the dish while driving in a run and scoring a run for the Mitchell teeners.
The second game of the doubleheader was a high scoring affair in the first two innings as Post 8 got the scoring started in the top of the first scoring five runs on four straight singles. The Mitchell 16u teeners went one run better in the bottom of the second scoring six runs to take a 6 to five lead after two. Post 8’s error in the bottom of the second proved costly as it plated two runs. The Mitchell teeners scored two more runs late for good measure and went on to the win the game by the final of 8 to 7. Mitchell’s Brennen Penne picked up the win in relief of Tyler Christensen going four innings allowing no runs on four hits while fanning five. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team hits the road for a Friday matchup vs the Aberdeen Smitty’s in a three-day tournament in Sioux Falls.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be hosting their annual youth football camp tomorrow at Joe Quintal Field starting at 9;30 a.m. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes youth football camp is open to students entering grades 5-8 this fall, the camp cost $20 per athlete and runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The youth football camp will provide a lunch for the campers who are required to bring their own T-shirt, shorts and football cleats are also needed for participation. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes youth football camp is being instructed by the Dakota Wesleyan University coaching staff and players. The Dimock Emery Raptors who are 8-7 on the season will travel to Sioux Falls tonight to battle the 4-1 Sioux Falls Brewers. The first pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
The DWU Boys Technique Wrestling Camp runs through Wednesday June 26TH– Saturday June 29TH and are for young boy’s wrestlers who will learn basic to advanced technique that feature progressive drills that will improve wrestling moves in all three position that include top, bottom, and neutral as well as scrambling from the DWU wrestling coaches and players. The DWU boys wrestling camps are for boys in 6th grade through 12th grade. day one check in time is at 10 a.m. Wednesday’s day one schedule is 2:30 p.m.to 4:30 p.m. The DWU boys wrestling camp is $335 per camper (T-shirt and 2 meals a day, 3 nights dorm included) commuter $200 (T-shirt lunch included each day).
