MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Mitchell leaders are focusing on attracting more visitors and encouraging longer stays as summer approaches. Officials from Travel South Dakota say tourism in 2024 brought $115 million to the area, supporting 1,600 jobs. The Mitchell Daily Republic reports in order to make Mitchell a must-visit spot, new initiatives include interactive tours, expanded roles for the Cornelia mascot, and more attractions like the Prehistoric Indian Village and Dakota Wesleyan University’s history and art tour. Local theater offerings, including a summer dinner theater, also aim to draw tourists. The goal is to turn Mitchell into a full-day destination, encouraging repeat visits and longer stays.
