SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Sioux Falls area law enforcement officials are sounding the alarm over a troubling increase in assaults against officers. Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead voiced his concerns during a joint news conference on Friday. Sheriff Milstead and Sioux Falls Police Chief Jon Thum addressed the growing issue, with Chief Thum citing several recent incidents. Among them was an armed standoff in Brandon that resulted in a man’s death, a state patrol trooper being fired on with a machine gun last weekend, and a third, unspecified incident involving juveniles. Both Thum and Milstead emphasized the need for strong mentorship and positive parenting to help reverse this disturbing pattern.
