MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Syphilis cases are finally dropping in South Dakota, down more than 40 percent from the recent peak. The state Department of Health says it’s the result of an all-around effort with help from tribal health, hospitals, jails, and other partners. At one point, early syphilis cases jumped from 100 in 2020 to over 15-hundred in 2022. Health officials remind people that syphilis can be sneaky because symptoms can disappear, but the infection can still spread and cause serious damage if left untreated. Officials say get tested, use protection, and know the signs. More information is available at doh.sd.gov. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here
