SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The task force working on plans for a new South Dakota men’s prison has made some key decisions. This week, members agreed to cap construction costs at $650 million and narrowed potential locations to two sites in northeast Sioux Falls. Both are undeveloped and located in industrial zones, less than a mile apart. Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen, who chairs the task force, says either site would serve the project well. The prison project still needs approval from the state legislature, which requires a two-thirds majority vote. Venhuizen says a special session likely won’t be called for at least another month.
