Mitchell Golf
The Kernel boys golf team had their final day at the State Tournament yesterday. Mitchell ended in seventh place as a team at State and had just two athletes make the Top 30. Carter McCormick finished tied for 28th with a 13 over par score and Asher Dannenbring tied for 15th at eight over par.
Mitchell Soccer
The Kernel soccer teams had Class AA State soccer last night. The girls had their season come to an end against Pierre T.F. Riggs and suffered a 5-1 loss. They finished with a 5-10 overall record. The boys had the same thing happen to them as they lost their matchup by a score of 10-0. Their season ends with a record of 2-10-3 overall.
Mitchell Tennis
The Kernel girls tennis team is preparing for Class AA State Tournament competition tomorrow and Friday. They will compete in Sioux Falls at 9am at Tomar Park tomorrow and at 8am on Friday.
DWU Golf
The Tiger men’s and women’s golf teams have wrapped up play at Whispering Creek Golf Club for the Mustang Derby. The men ended up finishing in 10th as a team and had just one athlete in the Top 30. Peyton Betcher finished tied for eight at five over par. For the women, they ended in second as a team with three players inside the Top 10. Ashton Austreim ended tied for eighth at 20 over par, Sara Sudenga finished in fourth place at eight over par and Allison Meyerink claimed the first place spot by finishing at six under par. Meyerink was one of two players to finish at even par on day two and took first by one stroke.
DWU Soccer
Abigail Colgrove of the Tiger women’s soccer team has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. She is coming off a stretch where she posted six saves on seven shots-on-goal and accomplished her fifth shutout of the season.
MLB
The Division Series had their Game 3’s begin last night with a pair of games. The No. 2 seed Seattle Mariners gained the series lead last night after an 8-4 victory in the road against the No. 6 seed Detroit Tigers. Mariners now have a 2-1 series lead. Also, it was a great night for the No. 4 seed New York Yankees as they finally got their first win of this series over the No. 1 seed Toronto Blue Jays by winning, 9-6. Toronto still leads the series, 2-1.
WNBA
The WNBA Finals Game 3 will take place tonight as the series moves to Phoenix. The No. 4 seed Phoenix Mercury will host the No. 2 seed Las Vegas Aces tomorrow night at 7pm on ESPN at the Mortgage Matchup Center.
NFL
Week 6 begins with Thursday Night Football. It is an NFC East rivalry matchup as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. TNF will air on Prime Video and begin at 7:15pm. The Minnesota Vikings will not be playing this week and are on a bye.
