PARKSTON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Parkston may soon dissolve its police department and contract with the Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement coverage. Sheriff Maurice Waltner and Mayor Tim Semmler outlined a proposal Tuesday for deputies to patrol the city up to 60 hours a week starting January 1. The plan would shift Parkston’s $276,000 police budget toward county services. A final decision is expected after another public meeting in November.
