MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Mitchell High School has announced the hiring of Bob Lemon as the new head coach of the girls soccer program, pending approval by the Mitchell School Board.
Lemon returns to the program after previously serving as head coach for six seasons before stepping away following the 2022 season. He succeeds Kindra Decker, who resigned after leading the program for the past two seasons.
During his previous tenure, Lemon helped build the Kernel girls soccer program around accountability, hard work and a team-first culture. School officials said his familiarity with the athletes, school and community will help provide continuity and leadership moving forward.
“Bob’s experience and history with our program make him an outstanding choice to lead our girls soccer team,” Mitchell Activities Director Cory Aadland said. “He has long been a respected soccer coach within the Mitchell community, and he understands our values while bringing a proven ability to connect with student-athletes and foster a competitive, positive environment.”
Lemon said he is excited for the opportunity to return to the sidelines and reconnect with the program.
“I’m grateful to be back with the Kernel girls soccer program and looking forward to reconnecting with our players,” Lemon said. “It’s a special opportunity to work with many of them again, and I’m excited to help them make the most of the upcoming season. I’m also looking forward to getting to know the younger players who have joined the program over the past few years and supporting their continued growth.”
Lemon’s hiring will become official following school board approval.
