MITCHELL, S.D. (Mitchell Now) — The Mitchell Board of Education reviewed updates to the district’s elementary school handbook during its Monday evening meeting at the Mitchell Career and Technical Education Academy, with officials noting that the document remains largely unchanged for the upcoming school year.

According to school administrators, revisions to the handbook were limited primarily to names, dates and other non-substantive updates. No major policy changes were proposed during the review.

Board members also discussed recommendations connected to representation within the South Dakota High School Activities Association. The discussion included constitutional amendment proposals related to student eligibility requirements, transfer rules and policies concerning early graduation.

In personnel matters, the board reviewed multiple staff resignations and approved the hiring of a new faculty member for Mitchell Technical College.

The meeting also highlighted student achievement across several career and technical education organizations. The board recognized students participating in programs including Future Farmers of America (FFA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), SkillsUSA and robotics teams.

District officials praised the continued involvement of students in career and technical education programs, which provide opportunities for leadership development, technical training and competitive events at the regional and state levels.

The meeting was held at the Mitchell Career and Technical Education Academy, a facility that supports many of the district’s workforce development and hands-on learning initiatives.
