MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — South Dakota is recognizing Election Worker Appreciation Day, honoring the people who help administer elections and keep voting running smoothly across the state, according to an announcement from the secretary of state’s office.
Secretary of State Monae L. Johnson thanked election workers and officials for their commitment to accuracy, impartiality and public service.
“Election workers are fundamental to our democracy,” Johnson said. “Their tireless work ensuring election day runs smoothly deserves our deepest gratitude and recognition. Our elections would not be possible without their commitment to serving the public.”
The announcement also encourages voters to remain patient if they encounter lines or unexpected delays. Election workers must follow procedures designed to maintain an orderly, secure voting process.
The recognition extends beyond Election Day, highlighting the work election officials perform throughout the year to prepare for and administer elections.
Residents are encouraged to thank election workers for their service.
Executive proclamations can be searched through the South Dakota Secretary of State’s website.
