I-90 East Closed Near Mitchell Friday Afternoon Due to Crash; Now Reopened

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — An accident shut down Interstate 90 in one direction on Friday afternoon near Mitchell.

All vehicles going east were detoured at Betts Road around the closure using Highway 16. The extra traffic began to back up at the intersection of Havens Avenue and Ohlman Street. Multiple Mitchell Police Department patrol cars were dispatched to the intersection to ensure the flow didn’t grind to a halt.

I-90 East was reopened at about 2:30 p.m. Westbound traffic was never affected by the disruption.

Mitchell Now has put in a request with the South Dakota Highway Patrol for more information about the initial crash that caused the problem. This story will be updated when we have more information.
