Mitchell Softball
The Kernel softball team faced O’Gorman last night at home. Mitchell kept things within range with a two-run bottom of the second after O’Gorman jumped out to a 4-0 start. Though the Knights responded immediately with a four-run top of the fourth and never looked back, beating the Kernels 16-6. Mitchell now sits at 1-4 overall. They will play again tomorrow against the Brandon Valley Lynx at Brandon Valley high school. JV will start at 4pm and then the varsity plays at 5:40pm.
Mitchell Baseball
The Kernel baseball team had a doubleheader against Sioux Falls Jefferson last night on the road. It was not a great day for the Kernels are they dropped both games to Sioux Falls Jefferson. Losing 12-3 in Game 1 and losing 12-1 in Game 2. Mitchell is now 8-4 after the two losses.
Mitchell Golf
The Kernels girls golf team competed against Huron at Huron Broadland Creek Golf Course yesterday. As a team they claimed second place in Huron with a 310 total score. Mitchell had four players in the Top 10 with Brynlee Sabers in 10th with an 83 (+11), Anna Eliason in seventh with a 79 (+7), Londyn Hajek in sixth with a 77 (+5) and Maddie Childs tied for second with a 71 (-1). They will compete again tomorrow morning at Yankton Fox Run Golf Course in a Varsity Quad and will tee off at 10am.
Mitchell Tennis
The Kernel boys tennis team played against Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Jefferson yesterday afternoon. Mitchell split their triangular – dropping the opening dual to Sioux Falls Lincoln 9-0 and then getting the win over Sioux Falls Jefferson 9-0. The Kernels are now 8-3 overall. They will serve it up again tomorrow evening in a Varsity Invitational against Rapid City Stevens at Sioux Park in Rapid City and start at 6pm.
DWU Golf
The Tiger men’s golf team rounded out play in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championships yesterday in Dakota Dunes, SD. DWU ended up finishing in sixth place at 71 over par and their only Top finisher was Peyton Bettcher who ended in third place with a five over par score.
DWU Track & Field
The Tiger track & field teams both competed in the VCSU Vikings Twilight yesterday. They will continue to compete in a separate competition tomorrow as they will be in the Drake Relays. Start time is TBA.
DWU Softball
The Tiger softball team gets back to the field tomorrow afternoon. They’ll travel to Sioux Center, IA for a doubleheader against the Dordt Defenders. The first pitch will be at 4pm.
MLB
The Minnesota Twins took on the New York Mets last night. Only one team was able to end their losing skid last night and it was the Twins who got themselves a 5-3 victory. It makes it now 12 straight losses for the Mets. Minnesota is now 12-11 overall after the win and they will play the Mets again tonight at 6:10pm on MLBTV.
NBA
The NBA Playoffs had more Game 2’s last night and will continue with a pair of games again tonight. Tonight’s games include:
- 8 seed Orlando Magic @ No. 1 seed Detroit Pistons at 6pm on ESPN (ORL leads 1-0)
- 8 seed Phoenix Suns @ No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder at 8:30pm on ESPN (OKC leads 1-0)
