MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The GOP roster is set for the general election, with the exception of the runoff contest for governor that will take place later this month.

Candidates for most statewide offices are picked by the party at its convention, which took place in Rapid City over the weekend. The Republicans are putting forward the following candidates for November:

Attorney General – Lance Russell

Secretary of State – Heather Baxter

State Treasurer – Melissa Hull

State Auditor – Catherine Barranco

Public Utilities Commission – Don Haggar

School and Public Lands – Brock Greenfield (Incumbent)

The theme for the 2026 South Dakota State Republican Convention was “The Golden Age of America.” The GOP currently holds every partisan statewide office.

The runoff election for the top state political office will be decided on July 28th between Toby Doeden and Governor Larry Rhoden. They were the top two vote getters in the June primary, but neither got to the 35% threshold required to advance to the general election. The lieutenant governor is elected as part of a ticket with the governor.
