Dakota Wesleyan football closes out the season today at home at Joe Quintal Field against No. 2 Morningside. The Mustangs jumped up a spot in the top-25 poll this week after defeating previous No. 2 Northwestern 55-49.
“Seventeen of their 22 starters that are listed are all seniors,” DWU head coach Ross Cimpl said. “So that just shows that they’ve got a great group of kids.”
DWU held on last week at home against Jamestown to win 31-25. Freshman quarterback Cayden Cunningham will again be the starter for the Tigers — and just like last week, he will be without leading receiver Jakob Oxos, who is out with an injury.
Saturday will be senior recognition day for DWU, which will graduate 20 players.
“We take for granted these guys sometimes in terms of their abilities and the opportunities that we have with them, and then all of a sudden you get to this time of year and it’s like ‘Oh, wow. This guy is not going to play here anymore and this is his last game,'” coach Cimpl said.
