MITCHELL, S.D.  (MITCHELLNOW) Attorney General Marty Jackley is proposing tougher sentencing for Human Trafficking convictions in South Dakota. Call to Freedom President and CEO Becky Rasmussen says that’s good news. VERBATIM: “ I’m very excited about a new piece of legislation that, uh, South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is bringing. It’s, uh, revised sentencing guidance for those convicted of human trafficking and under these new guidelines some who will be convicted of first degree trafficking will serve a mandatory sentence.”  Call to Freedom of Sioux Falls is one of the nation’s leading anti-trafficking organizations.

VERBATIM: “We see a lot of different trafficking passing through our communities because of those two intersections, as well as, South Dakota’s the home of five of the poorest counties in the United States located here in South Dakota with our tribal nations.” She’s encouraged by legislative proposals by Attorney General Marty Jackley to increase the state’s trafficking sentences to be more in line with Federal Sentencing guidelines.
