MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The South Dakota House Transportation Committee killed a bill on Tuesday that would have ended mandatory seat belt use for adults. Todd Epp has the story. VERBATIM: The 10-2 vote came after over an hour of testimony from crash survivors, medical workers and insurance officials. Bill sponsor Rep. Dylan Jordan said he survived a rollover crash because of his seat belt but still believes the government shouldn’t mandate their use. Opponents warned the change would cost South Dakota millions in federal highway dollars and drive up insurance rates for everyone. I’m Todd Epp reporting. The law requiring seat belts remains in effect, with about 91 percent of South Dakotans regularly buckling up.
