MITCHELL, S.D.  (MITCHELLNOW) There’s progress on plans to create the Davison Hanson Ambulance District. The idea is to have the Mitchell Regional Ambulance Service cover both Davison and Hanson counties, with funding coming from a new tax levy. The Mitchell Daily Republic reports it’s in response to rising call volumes and staff shortages. The city of Mitchell says it will stop sending ambulances outside city limits starting in 2026 unless more funding is secured. Six communities need to sign off on the plan, four in Hanson County and two in Davison County. If they do, there will be a public hearing and a vote. The whole plan comes after a proposed bill requiring counties to provide EMS services was shot down earlier this year. If all goes as planned, we can expect town hall meetings and a public vote soon after local approval.
