PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Larry Rhoden is acting fast on property tax relief. At a news conference Thursday morning he was joined by legislators and staff members from the working group introducing a plan to cap property tax increases on owner-occupied homes. VERBATIM: I believe this is the first Governor’s Bill that has been introduced in the last two or three years and I’m proud to have this as the Governor’s Bill. And I want to thank all of the legislators who participated in this great discussion. And I want to thank you all for your passion to relieve the tax burden on South Dakota homeowners. The Governor announced that the proposal would limit property tax assessment increases to three percent for the next five years. The bill will begin in the State Senate.
