MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Mitchell City Council is considering adding $1.1 million to the 2025 budget for upgrades at Hitchcock Park, including new lights, improved pathways, and new tennis courts. The current courts require frequent maintenance due to poor construction. Concerns about safety have come up, especially after an injury last year, and replacing the courts with durable post-tension concrete is under consideration. The Mitchell Daily Republic reports that Mayor Jordan Hanson said investing more now will save money long-term. The council recently approved new pickleball courts with durable, low-maintenance materials. The council is also looking to improve park lighting for safety, especially for early-morning and evening park goers.
