MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) At their March 3 meeting, the Mitchell City Council approved $180,000 in projects from a 5.75 million dollar list. This includes $100,000 for an extra airport hangar, $15,000 for the soccer complex concession stand, and $65,000 for a design plan to replace Hitchcock Park’s tennis courts. The council discussed using cash reserves to fund the projects and considered reaching out to local sports groups and applying for grants, especially for the tennis courts. Some council members felt these projects could wait until next year’s budget. They also considered starting a tree nursery and upgrading the soccer complex. The airport hangar project, which could generate future revenue, is expected to reduce the city’s ongoing funding needs.
