PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Larry Rhoden recently signed five new public safety bills into law, including one, HB 1230, that toughens penalties for fentanyl distribution. Rhoden emphasized that keeping South Dakota safe is a top priority for him, especially when it comes to fighting crime and tackling the fentanyl crisis. Along with HB 1230, he signed four other bills: SB 64 which changes rules about setting parole dates, SB 115 that addresses sexual contact with minors, HB 1012 that clarifies the role of the Statewide One-Call Notification Board, and HB 1096 that limits suspended sentences for certain rape offenses.
