PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Larry Rhoden has proclaimed May as “Military Appreciation Month” in collaboration with the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs. The month honors the sacrifices of military members and their families, including observances such as Loyalty Day on May 1st, Victory in Europe Day on May 8th, Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 9th, Armed Forces Day on May 17th, and Memorial Day on May 26th. May is also recognized as Gold Star Awareness Month. Governor Rhoden and SDDVA Secretary Jeremiah Schneider urge South Dakotans to actively show appreciation, attend local events, and support veterans, military families, and Gold Star families throughout the month.
