MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A new site analysis for South Dakota’s proposed men’s prison ranks the Lincoln County location as the top option. The report, done by Arizona-based Arrington Watkins Architects, reviewed six potential sites. The Mitchell site tied for fourth place, and was described as remote but promising. Some raised concerns over infrastructure needs and proximity to escape routes like a nearby railroad and river. At 70 miles from Sioux Falls, it was also flagged for higher transportation costs. The Lincoln County site, just 10 miles south of Sioux Falls, scored highest for location, size, and access, though it will still require utility upgrades. A final recommendation for phase one development is expected at today’s meeting of the Project Prison Reset panel in Pierre. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
