MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Authorities recovered the body of a man who drowned while swimming in the James River near Mitchell. Twenty-eight-year-old Juan Carlos Oballe Ixquiactap (Oh-bull Ex-Quee-Uh-Tap) of Sioux Falls went missing Friday afternoon after being swept away by a strong current. Emergency crews launched an extensive search using boats with sonar, drones, and teams on shore. The search stretched into Friday night and resumed Saturday morning, but crews had to pause in the afternoon because of extreme heat and dangerous weather conditions. Late Saturday night authorities got a report of a possible body in the water. The Mitchell Republic reports a drone helped confirm the sighting, and the body was recovered by boat. The Davison County Sheriff’s Office thanked all the agencies involved in the search, including local fire departments, law enforcement, and volunteers.
