CANTON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A Canton man is headed to prison after admitting he violated probation by failing to make court-ordered restitution payments. According to the Mitchell Republic, 51 year-old Patrick Ross had pleaded no contest last December to grand theft involving more than $5,000. He was originally given a suspended eight-year sentence and ordered to pay $31,000 in restitution. Prosecutors said Ross paid only a fraction of that. A defense request to reduce payments to $250 was rejected by the judge who said Ross’s lack of effort was unacceptable. Ross was sentenced to eight years in prison, with six years suspended, and was taken into custody immediately. For more crime stories from MitchellNow.com, click here.
