MINNEAPOLIS, MN (Mitchell Now) — The Twins needed a little help from Mitchell to play baseball on Friday night.
Representatives from the Mitchell Area Children’s Choir dutifully strode onto the pristine green grass of Target Field, not to take up a position, but something equally important. The choir, with orange shirts aglare, belted out Francis Scott Key’s Star-Spangled Banner pregame.
Singing into a pair of microphones from just behind second base in shallow center, their voices came together as one to deliver the traditional national anthem performance that is scheduled prior to first pitch of every contest. As the kids were singing, it was time for another Target Field tradition, the raising of the American flag on the plaza overlooking right field.
The Mitchell Area Children’s Choir is for kids in grades 3-8. It rehearses at L.B. Williams Elementary. The choir is no stranger to big stages. They have performed the anthem before basketball, baseball, and hockey games in the past. They also do multiple concerts each year.
