PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The discussion continues in Pierre over the creation of educational savings accounts for some South Dakota students. House Bill 1009 is one of two bills on the issue. It will be considered again today after being deferred. Representative Dylan Jordan, the prime sponsor of the bill, says the goal is to fund the education of each student, regardless of their school choice.
South Dakotans don’t appear to be in favor of education savings accounts. That’s according to a new poll commissioned by the Public Schools Coalition. Out of the 500 South Dakotans who were interviewed, 58-percent said they were against school savings accounts. 57-percent said they believe public schools receive too little funding.
