MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A crowd of about 50 residents packed Tuesday’s Davison County Commission meeting to speak out against a proposed state prison site just outside Mitchell. Speakers raised concerns about safety, traffic, drug smuggling, and the impact on the community’s identity. Not one person spoke in favor of the project. Many were also frustrated that local leaders supported the prison before public input was gathered. One commissioner acknowledged the state’s fast-tracked timeline has added pressure to the decision-making process. Public forums on the prison proposal are set to begin June 17 at Mitchell Technical College. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
