PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Property Tax Task Force is back at work in South Dakota, tackling the issue of high property taxes. Lawmakers met Wednesday in Sioux Falls, where they got a crash course on how the state’s property tax system funds local governments. During the last legislative session, some lawmakers raised concerns about inefficiencies in how local governments operate. But not everyone agrees. Sioux Falls City Finance Director Shawn Pritchett was among the local officials who pushed back on that claim. The Task Force is now focused on crafting recommendations that the full legislature can consider next year, aimed at easing the property tax burden for South Dakotans.
